Lil Nas X Takes to the Atlanta Stage in a Skirt

It was a hometown road moment for Lil Nas X when the always-fashionable "Montero" singer took to the stage in a Coach skirt for a concert in Atlanta, Page Six reported.

"The 'Old Town Road' rapper, 23, has never been afraid of experimenting with his personal style," Page Six noted, "having rocked golden armor, a towering feathered headdress, a bustled skirt and more gender-fluid looks on the red carpet."

Page Six cited the openly gay recording artist's words to PEOPLE Magazine, in which Nas X declared that "Style is a form of self-expression," and went on to add, " I feel like to get further in life, you have to shed skins and do things that you normally wouldn't."

Not that it's always easy... especially when you're playing your hometown and friends and family are in the audience.

"I was really nervous about going out on stage in front of my family and everybody in my cute, little Coach skirt," Nas X admitted to PEOPLE. "But as soon as I walked out, I felt like I was setting my younger self free."

And, perhaps, liberating others from the chains of prejudice, too: "Afterwards, my family – a lot of whom used to believe in everything opposite to what's up on that stage – told me they were really proud," Nas X enthused. "I feel like I'm changing some minds."

When he can't win 'em over with classy looks and Grammy-winning music, Nas X draws on his sense of humor – or just sends 'em pizza, which, as previously reported, is what he did when a group of anti-LGBTQ+ protestors showed up outside a recent concert in Boston.

The fact that Nas X found one of the protestors to be "really cute" might also have had something to do with the tasty offering. "I called him out on Twitter," the best-selling artist told PEOPLE, "but I haven't heard from him."

"Lil Nas X's journey to self-actualization is personified in Coach's new 'Courage to Be Real' campaign video," PEOPLE said.
