About to Wrap Up Season 4, 'Hacks' Renewed for a 5th

It's almost time to say goodbye for another season, but this won't be the last: "Hacks" continues to hack it, with a Season 5 renewal announced just prior to Season 4 coming to a close.

"Max renewed the Emmy-winning comedy series ahead of the season four finale this Thursday," May 29, Deadline reported.

"The series has garnered 48 Emmy nominations during its run, including a season three win for Outstanding Comedy Series."

The site added that "'Hacks' has been a top five series on Max since its season four debut in the U.S. and a top 10 series globally," and noted that the show "was created and is run by Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky."

The current season has followed the fallout of aging actor Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) gaining her own late-night talk show, with writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) having resorted to blackmail to secure a spot as the program's head writer. A bitter division between the two was headed toward reconciliation after the season's midpoint, but not before memorable moments like Deborah's assistant, Damien (Mark Indelicato), taking Deborah out for an impromptu night on the town (and explaining the differences between Las Vegas gays and their L.A. counterparts).

"Like Deborah Vance herself, 'Hacks' only gets bolder, sharper, and more iconic with time," Deadline relayed Erin Underhill, the head of Universal TV, saying via a statement.

"We're beyond thrilled to keep the laughter rolling with Jen, Paul, Lucia, our extraordinary cast and crew, and our partners at Max," Underhill went on to add.

"The fourth season also starred Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato, and Rose Abdoo, along with Dan Bucatinsky, Helen Hunt, Tony Goldwyn, Kaitlin Olson, Jane Adams, Lauren Weedman, Christopher McDonald, Poppy Liu, Lorenza Izzo, Johnny Sibilly, Paul Felder, Polly Draper, Luenell, and Aristotle Athari," Deadline detailed.
