Shawn Mendes Wants the World to Know What He Thinks of Bad Bunny in his Calvins
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
You don't need to know Spanish to realize that Shawn Mendes is parched for Bad Bunny.
The Puerto Rican superstar turned heads this week when he posted a pair of pics - one from the front and one from the back - from his new campaign with Calvin Klein. And in the comments section Mendes wrote, "guapo" - "handsome" in Spanish.
Mendes has previously done a campaign for the underwear giant.
"As of Friday, Bad Bunny's post has been liked 4.4 million times on the social media site, with the official MTV Instagram account also commenting, 'I tapped way more than twice'," Entertainment Weekly reports.
Mendes comment comes after he addressed his sexuality during a performance at Colorado's Red Rocks Ampitheatre.
"Since I was really young, there's been this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it for so long," he told the audience, reflecting that he started in the music business when he was 15. "I think it's kind of silly, because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing and it's so hard to just put into boxes."
The Canadian star continued: "It always felt like such an intrusion on something very personal to me, something that I was figuring out in myself, something that I had yet to discover, and still have yet to discover."
"The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that, man, I'm just figuring it out like everyone," he said. "I don't really know sometimes and I know other times. And it feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that."
In the past, Mendes has dated singer Camila Cabello and Hailey Bieber (prior to her marriage to singer Justin Bieber), but has long been questioned about his sexuality.
In 2018, he told Rolling Stone, "In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to go be seen with someone - like a girl - in public, to prove to people that I'm not gay. Even though in my heart I know that it's not a bad thing. There's still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me"
In 2020, Mendes also discussed the rumors on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, in which he had trouble articulating his response, finally saying: "You want to say, 'I'm not gay, but it'd be fine if I was gay - but also there's nothing wrong with being gay, but I'm not.'"
Amongst the comments were "perfect couple," "imagine with lil nas x😂,"denial is a river," and "WUAJAJAJJA QUE."
