That Must Hurt – Finnish Skier Reveals Most Painful Experience in Sub-Zero Race

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

When the Olympic Games start next year, it can only be hoped that there was in Beijing in 2022. It was there that 50km Cross-Country Skiing event was shortened to 30km due to the brutal winds. But still that wasn't short enough to cause considerable stress and damage to Finnish skier Remi Lindholm, who opened up about his most painful experience. The event was won by Russian Alexander Bolshunov with Lindholm finishing far back at 28th. But he had other things on his mind than placing higher up.

Britain's Daily Sun reports that over the course for one hour and 16 minutes on the course in ice-cold temperatures of -17C, Lindholm's penis froze.

"You can probably guess what was on the ice when I got to the finish line. It was one of the worst competitions I've been in. It was just about battling through. When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable."

And it wasn't the first time: he had a similar experience during the Ruka World Cup the year before. "It was [worse this time]. Pretty unbearable pain."

"A frozen penis on the slopes isn't an uncommon experience, with Calle Halfvarsson suffering the same fate as Lindholm during the 20km World Cup event in Ruka. The Swede was left worried about his chances to have children if he endures it again.

"I have frozen my penis," he told Swedish publication Expressen. "For real. Damn, I had to lie in there [warm-up tent] for 10 minutes to warm it up. It hurts so damn much. It's terrible. It's lucky that I'm going to have my second child because this is going to be difficult in the future if I'm going to continue like this."

Whether Lindholm - who finished second in the Finlandia Ski Marathon Freestyle last weekend - will compete next year remains to be seen. Halfvarsson. meanwhile, has earmarked the Olympics as a goal to make before aiming to retire in 2027 at the World Championships.
