Watch: Andrew Scott Reveals He Had a Kidney Stone at the 2020 SAG Awards

The last time "Fleabag" and "Ripley" star Andrew Scott was at the SAG Awards, something happened that had him "ripping off [his] tuxedo," Variety reported.
Scott, dressed in an Alexander McQueen suit, revealed details in a red carpet interview, telling Marc Malkin that when he was at the ceremony in 2020 as a nominee for an award for his role of the "Hot Priest" in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's "Fleabag," he had a sudden, and excruciating, medical crisis.
"Well, I'll tell you what happened to me," Scott told Malkin. "I passed a kidney stone..."
"Wait - wait," Malkin exclaimed. "During the SAG Awards, you passed a kidney stone?"
"So, I'll tell you," Scott elaborated, "I was beside Phoebe and Laura Dern had just won Best Supporting Actress" – for the film "Marriage Story" – "and we were standing up for Laura. And I don't know if anyone's experienced having a kidney stone before, but it sends you. The pain is so immediate."
It's also intense – so much so, Scott related, that he had to crawl away from the event, "and by the time her speech was over, I was ripping off my tux."
"I was in the back of one of those rooms back there," the out "All of Us Strangers" star continued, pointing, "writhing around in agony."
At least the actor knew what was happening. "I knew what it was," Scott told Malkin, who listened with a hand over his mouth, "because I had it before."
"And that was my last experience at the SAG Awards," the actor summed up with a smile.
Malkin tentatively asked how Scott was feeling, sending them both into a bout of laughter. "No, I'm feeling good."
Malkin was curious about what happened with the stone – "Did you leave it here?" – and Scott explained that he had been quietly whisked away by an ambulance. Anyway, he said, "People don't need to know that. It was grisly."
His experience at the SAG Awards was less traumatic this time around, but still a bit disappointing. Scott had been nominated in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series for his role in the Netflix miniseries "Ripley," Variety noted in a separate rundown of the evening's winners. But fellow Irish actor Colin Farrell walked away with the prize for his role as the title character in the miniseries "The Penguin" on Max.
During the night, Variety noted, Scott had to contend with a "finicky" microphone. He and Quinta Brunson presented the award for Outstanding Male Actor in a Drama Series, which went to Hiroyuki Sanada for "Shogun."
Elsewhere in the evening, Zoe Saldaña won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her turn in the Netflix musical "Emilia Pérez" about a Mexican cartel boss who fakes his death and undergoes gender confirmation surgery in order to live as her authentic self. Jean Smart won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her work on "Hacks," and Timothée Chalamet won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his turn as a young Bob Dylan in the biopic "A Complete Unknown."
