Instagram users got into an uproar over sexy "Monsters" star Nicholas Alexander Chavez wearing a crucifixion-themed costume and doing a provocative dance in front of a "Last Supper" type tableau.

Chavez, who stars as Lyle Menendez in the Ryan Murphy series "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story," dressed in the revealing garb for Halloween, E! News reported.

Among the images Chavez posted was a photo of himself smiling, with blood seeming to pour from beneath a crown of thorns and from nails driven into his hands. Another snap seemed to show him nailed to a cross.

"BRAT supper," Chavez captioned the post.

In the video, E! News detailed, Chavez "performed the choreographed dance for Charli XCX's hit song 'Apple' from her album 'Brat.'"

The backdrop to the video was a "Last Supper"-style depiction of men seated at a long table, though with spears piercing their heads and necks.

E! News noted that in addition to starring in "Monsters," which streams on Netflix, Chavez is also featured in Murphy's FX series "Grotesquerie," in which a serial killer murders sex workers, arranging their dismembered corpses in ways that relate to biblical scripture. Chavez plays a Catholic priest with unorthodox views on how to modernize the church.

Followers flooded Chavez's post with angry condemnations.

"Shame on you," one person chided, while another declared, "This is so disrespectful what 😭".

Another said, "Why does every star who makes it big mock Jesus....like tell us ya'll worship satan without telling us u worship satan. It's obvious at this pointπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ imagine if people treated other religions this disrespectfully".

Shorter, but equally sharp, expressions of disapproval ranged from "The audacity" to "Yeah this ain't it honey".

One person predicted the end of Chavez's career, writing, "yea ur done".

Others called for tolerance of different viewpoints.

"wth with the comment section 😭😭😭 y'all need to chill," one fan posted. Another declared, "This comment section is beyond insufferable".

Chavez's scanty costume echoes other thirst trap images he has posted to his Instagram page. See other examples below.
