Alvin Ailey Dedicates Proceeds From Dec. 17 to Dancers Responding to AIDS

On Thursday, December 17, join Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as they generously dedicate one night of its New York City Center season to benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS.�The annual event takes place during the NYCC season, which runs from December 2 through January 3.

The spectacular new program features:

* The Ailey company premiere of Paul Taylor's "Piazzolla Caldera" -- Astor Piazzolla's fiery tango music sets the stage for a series of sizzling encounters, some predatory, some playful

* Kyle Abraham's "Untitled America: First Movement" -- Abraham, a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant" winner, explores the lasting impact of the prison system on individuals and their families in his first installment of a three-part suite

* The world premiere of Robert Battle's "Awakening" -- Battle uses his taut, ritualistic style to powerful effect in Awakening, expertly balancing chaos and resolution, dissonance and harmony. This is his first new work since becoming artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2011

* Ronald K. Brown's "Open Door_ -- Renowned for his fusion of African and modern dance, Brown adds new flavor to his signature style in Open Door, set to recordings by Arturo O'Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Dancers Responding to AIDS, founded in 1991 by former Paul Taylor Dance Company members Denise Roberts Hurlin and Hernando Cortez, relies on the extraordinary compassion and efforts of the performing arts community to fund a safety net of social services for those in need. As a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, DRA supports the essential programs of The Actors Fund, including the HIV/AIDS Initiative and The Dancers' Resource as well as more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations in all 50 states.
