Atlanta Trans Performer Found Dead, 'Drag Race' Stars Share Condolences

A popular transgender performer, well-known on the Atlanta, Ga. drag queen scene, was found dead Wednesday morning, The Georgia Voice reports.

Friends of Lateasha Shuntel have flocked to social media to share their condolences. Shavonna Brooks, a close friend and colleague of Shuntel, first reported the news Wednesday afternoon via Facebook.

"It is with great sadness that I inform the community of my sister Lateasha Shuntel's passing," wrote Brooks. "Lateasha was found peacefully this morning in her vehicle and was not the victim of foul play THANK GOD! I am hurt, crying, a mess, tore up, anything you can think of at this point."

Shuttle was "an iconic drag queen, Shuntel was a mainstay and crowd favorite as a drag performer at Blake's on The Park. She also worked as a distributor for DAVID Atlanta Magazine and Southern Voice, the LGBT predecessor to Georgia Voice," the Georgia Voice writes.

The newspaper also points out Shuntel's immediate family was informed of her passing and a GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral costs. Although there is no cause of death reported, Queerty reports Shuntel's friends are not suspicious of foul play.

Some "RuPaul's Drag Race" contestants also shared their love for Shuntel.

Season 2 contestant Nicole Paige Brooks took to Facebook and wrote: "You where one of the first people I met when I moved here in 97. I worked with you from my start here in Atlanta at Backstreet I can't fathom you not being there this week asking me to help with your hair. I can't believe I am saying this. Rest in Peace my friend Lateasha Shuntel you are going to be forever missed."

"Drag Race" Season 6 contestant Trinity K. Bonet also took to Facebook:

"Lord...rip to atls own Lateasha Shuntel......smhhhhh......day over now."
