During the 19th and most recent season of "Family Guy," popular character Bruce finally comes out as gay and marries his boyfriend, NME reports.

For years, Bruce's sexuality has been the basis for many of the show's jokes — particularly in the most recent season, where he faces pressure to settle with a woman and begins dating Meg, even though the Griffins insist he is "obviously gay." Calling off their planned wedding, Meg encourages him to come out, which leads to Bruce and his boyfriend Jeffrey getting married in a ceremony officiated by lead character Peter Griffin.

The show's executive producers, Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin, recently suggested phasing out anti-LGBTQ jokes. As Sulkin told TVLine, "If you look at a show from 2005 or 2006 and put it side by side with a show from 2018 or 2019, they're going to have a few differences. Some of the things we felt comfortable saying and joking about back then, we now understand is not acceptable."
