In a surprising move, movie studio Lionsgate has pulled the plug on John Travolta's new film "Gotti," a biopic about the mobster John Gotti, just ten days before it was to be released in the U.S., Entertainment Weekly reports.

Lionsgate sold the film back to the production company Emmett/Furla/Oasis.

According to reporter Jef Sneider of The Tracking Board, the producers are now looking for new distribution. EW adds a 2018 release "now seems likely, instead of the originally planned Dec. 15 bow."

Officials for Lionsgate have not specified why they dumped the film.

"Gotti" also starred Travolta's real-life wife Kelly Preston as Victoria Gotti and Stacy Keach as Gotti's mentor, Aniello Dellacroce. The film was directed by "Entourage" star Kevin Connolly.
