Wanda Sykes, Tig Notaro Headline the Women in Comedy Festival (WICF) April 20 and 21

Celebrating its ninth year, the Women in Comedy Festival (WICF) presents Emmy Award winner Wanda Sykes on Friday, April 20 at 8 p.m. and The New York Times best-selling author Tig Notaro on Saturday, April 21 at 7 p.m. Both comedians are slated to perform at the historic Chevalier Theatre in Medford, Massachusetts.

Presented by HBO, Showtime, NBC, WBUR, The Onion, ImprovBoston and the Chevalier Theatre, WICF begins on Wednesday, April 18 and ends on Sunday, April 22, with the festival taking place at various venues in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, Massachusetts.

The largest and fastest-growing female-focused festival in the country, WICF also features panel discussions, interviews, and workshops by industry professionals?all open to the public.

Confirmed industry executives include: Kelly Edwards (Vice President of Talent Development, HBO); Jandiz Estrada Cardoso (Director of Talent Development Programming, NBC), Jeanne Mau (Vice President of Entertainment Diversity, CBS); Karen Horne (Senior Vice President, Programming Talent Development & Inclusion, NBC); Daria Overby (Director, Creative Diversity STARZ Entertainment); Julia Pleasants (Talent Coordinator Disney TVA Casting) and Sophia Salador (Associate Producer, "Just For Laughs").

Kicking off the festival on April 18 is the event "PAID FOR BY," a Boston based comedy web series that pokes fun at the zany and backward world of politics as seen through the lens of political commercial production. The show stars Boston stand-ups Kelly MacFarland and Tony V at Laugh Boston at 8 p.m.

On Thursday, April 19, SHOWTIME® will screen the premiere episode of the new season of "I'm Dying Up Here" at the Kendall Square Cinema (Cambridge, MA) at 7 p.m. From executive producer Jim Carrey, the series explores L.A.'s famed '70s stand-up comedy scene, with an ensemble cast led by Academy Award® winner Melissa Leo ("The Fighter") and Ari Graynor ("Whip It," "The Disaster Artist"). The 10-episode season of "I'm Dying Up Here" will premiere on Sunday, May 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME.

On Friday, April 20, the workshop "Anatomy of an Original Comedy Writing Sample" will be led by DMA, Director of Disney, and ABC's Creative Talent Development & Inclusion team at The Rockwell in Davis Square (Somerville, MA) at 5 p.m.

In this interactive writers' workshop, DMA will discuss the basic elements of story and structure and how those are evaluated in original writing samples that Disney | ABC Creative Talent Development & Inclusion (CTDI) receives for consideration.

On Saturday, April 21, The Onion & ClickHole present the workshop "The Art of Satire in a World of Fake News" at The Rockwell (Somerville, MA) at 4 p.m.

On Sunday, April 22, the festival presents a special live edition of WBUR's highly popular children's storytelling show, Circle Round Live at The Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square (Cambridge, MA) at 2:30 p.m.
