Lennie Watts Brings Award-Winning Cabaret to Ocean St. Theatre
WARWICK, RI - Ocean State Theatre Company (OSTC), the not-for-profit professional theatre company, which recently completed its inaugural season in Warwick, is pleased to present the Multi Award-winning cabaret performer and OSTC fan favorite, Lennie Watts, in his funny, yet poignant show, Bloody Bloody Lennie Watts for one performance only on Friday, August 16 at 7:30pm.
"Our new facility not only allows us to produce professional regional theatre throughout the year, but also to bring shows like Lennie Watts's critically acclaimed 2013 MAC Award-winner to Ocean State Theatre," said Amiee Turner, Producing Artistic Director of Ocean State Theatre Company. "Although he has a very loyal following in Rhode Island, due to his many years performing at Theatre By The Sea with both FourQuest Entertainment and OSTC, audiences may not realize that he has been active in the New York cabaret scene for over 20 years and is recognized as an outstanding vocalist, director, producer, and booking manager."
Lennie Watts, who won rave reviews in OSTC productions of The SantaLand Diaries (2012) and The Drowsy Chaperone (2011), is a nine time MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets), five time Backstage Bistro, and three time Nightlife Award-winner. Watts is the creator of "cablab" and "Summer In The City," both critically acclaimed professional cabaret performance workshops. Lennie appeared on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," and released his debut CD "I want... You want..." in 2000. He is currently the President of MAC, and was recently named one of "The 50 Most Influential People in New York Cabaret" by Nightlife Exchange.
Featuring music from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Sting, and Jason Robert Brown to Janet Jackson, Watts deals with Faith, Trust, Love, Hope, and Life. Musical Directed by Steven Ray Watkins, with direction by Kristine Zbornik, the concert features the talents of Tanya Holt, Lorinda Lisitza, and Wendy Russell. Life is a Bitch, and then you sing about it!
Winner of the 2013 Major Artist MAC Award, the New York production deemed Lennie Watts "A one man cabaret army," by The Village Voice. Woman About Town wrote "This is one of the most audacious and original cabaret shows I've seen," while After Dark said Bloody Bloody Lennie Watts is "his strongest show, this could play larger venues like off- Broadway and find an audience waiting for something extraordinary - and real."
The proceeds from Bloody Bloody Lennie Watts will benefit Ocean State Theatre Company's Live Music Initiative, which was established in 2008 in order to support the tradition of professional musicians playing live during all musical theatre performances.
Bloody Bloody Lennie Watts will be presented on Friday, August 16 at 7:30 pm. The theatre is located at 1245 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, RI. All tickets are $35 and are on sale at the box office Monday through Friday from 12 noon - 6:00 pm and Saturdays from 12 noon - 4:00 pm.
